			Abstract:
Laser trabeculoplasty (LTP) clinically lowers intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma (OAG). The IOP-lowering effect is surprisingly independent of the type of laser used, suggesting that the act of photostimulation produces characteristic changes in the TM. This chapter reviews the historical use of LTP in the clinic and in the laboratory, and describes the ways in which this procedure has opened new lines of investigations into treating OAG, including those involving stem cell transplantation, new drug therapies targeting specific intracellular structures, and selective gene therapy.
